Nine mysterious items have been stolen from Mount Olympus, and if Daphne cannot find them, the gods' waning powers will fade away, the mortal world will descend into chaos, and her brother's life will be forfeit. But an unexpected encounter with the goddess Artemis - who holds Daphne's brother's fate in her hands - upends the life she's worked so hard to build. Seventeen-year-old Daphne has spent her entire life honing her body and mind into that of a warrior, hoping to be accepted by the unyielding people of ancient Sparta. In this thrilling reimagining of ancient Greek mythology, a headstrong girl does whatever it takes to rise up and become the most powerful fighter her people have ever seen.

These issues have been brought up by society rather than reality in other words, women aren’t any less ambitious or capable as men but they’ve grown up in a world that emphasizes being pretty and agreeable over intelligent and successful. She believes that it is because of their internal barriers that make them hesitant to pursue positions of power and self doubt which makes them feel like they’re not good enough. In the first two chapters, Sandberg presents her argument about why women are less successful than men. Finally, she argues that in order to advance further toward gender equality, we need to let go of biased beliefs and open our minds so we can truly embrace change. Sandberg also discusses how people absorb sexist attitudes from the culture around them and internalize these ideas as their own. She uses statistics to prove that although there has been progress for women, they still have a long way to go before achieving equality with men. In this passage, Sandberg establishes the importance of her argument by talking about women’s status in society. Therefore, she urges women to take control of their careers and fight against gender inequality in order to reach full equality with men. She argues that women can only achieve equality in the workforce when they demand it for themselves. Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead (2013) is a nonfiction book written by Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg. 1-Page Summary of Lean In Overall Summary It’s by far my favorite element to this series.Īnother thing I loved is the story’s great pacing. “The Paradox Trilogy” had, in my opinion, excellent aliens with totally different compositions, motives, and impacts on the story. I like sci-fi novels and television shows that focus on technology and human advancement, but it’s the ones with expansive world-building and creature creation that I really love. And it only gets more exciting from there.īach presents a universe with dynamic and beautifully imagined aliens who make the entire structure of the story memorable. To show her worth, she applies for the most dangerous job she can find – a security position on Captain Caldwell’s “Golden Fool” trading ship, guaranteed to test her limits. It starts off with an excellent character – Devi, a young woman mercenary who has one goal: to join the King’s elite Devastators. The bottom line is, I have yet to be anything short of completely dazzled by everything Rachel Bach has written, and “The Paradox Trilogy” might be my favorite yet! Seriously – there’s nothing this woman can’t do! “The Paradox Trilogy” is her only sci-fi/space opera series thus far, but she also wrote the “Eli Monpress” fantasy series (which has amazing world-building, humor, and characters you’ll never forget) and the “Heartstrikers” series (which is an urban fantasy about a clan of badass dragons, and one nice dragon who doesn’t quite fit in). Rachel Aaron) as one of my go-to authors for a guaranteed good read. Warning: The story contains explicit content, violence, profanity, and topics that may be sensitive to some listeners. Because despite Christian’s cold nature, he makes her feel everything when she’s with him. But when a threat from her past drives her into the arms-and house-of the most dangerous man she’s ever met, she’s tempted to let herself feel something for the first time in a long time. Between her two jobs, she has little time or desire for a relationship. Sweet, shy and introverted despite her social media fame, Stella Alonso is a romantic who keeps her heart in a cage. And when the opportunity to get closer to her arises, he breaks his own rules to offer her a deal she can’t refuse. She’s the object of his darkest desires, the only puzzle he can’t solve. He has little use for morals and even less use for love, but he can’t deny the strange pull he feels towards the woman living just one floor below him. The author has license to make up a world where who the main character loves is not an issue. I’ve seen this most in fantasy, in books like Crier’s War by Nina Varela or Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir. Lately, I’ve been more into stories where the sexuality of the main character is central to the book, but not at all central to the book’s conflict. Coming out stories are important and powerful, but in some ways they’ve been obscuring other aspects of the lives of queer people. I don’t want to speak for anyone but myself, but I don’t have much interest in coming out stories in my queer YA. Though it explores some heavy issues, SPIN ME RIGHT ROUND was a really fun story to read. In a story that’s fresh, intersectional, and wickedly funny, David Valdes introduces a big-mouthed, big-hearted queer character that readers won’t soon forget. Luis is in over his head, trying not to make things worse-and hoping he makes it back to present day at all. Especially with homophobes running the campus, including Gordo (aka Luis’s estranged father). Though it turns out a conservative school in the ’80s isn’t the safest place to be a gay kid. When a hit on the head knocks him back in time to 1985 and he meets the doomed young Chaz himself, Luis concocts a new plan-he’s going to give this guy his first real kiss. But that was ages ago, when Luis’s parents were in high school it would never happen today, right? He’s determined to find a way to give his LGBTQ friends the respect they deserve (while also not risking his chance to be prom king, just saying…). Not after what happened with Chaz Wilson.
